Workshop Description

Experimentation & Art Recommended Ages 7–12 Step into a world of colour, reflections and optical illusions! In this workshop we'll build our own working kaleidoscope and discover how light, mirrors and colourful shapes create ever-changing patterns. LET'S WONDER Why do the patterns keep changing? How can three mirrors create hundreds of shapes? What happens if we change the colours inside? LET'S CREATE We'll build our very own kaleidoscope before filling it with colourful beads and sparkles to create unique patterns every time we turn it. LET'S TEST We'll experiment with different objects, colours and materials to see how they change the designs inside our kaleidoscope. LET'S EXPLORE We'll investigate questions like: Why do mirrors create repeating patterns? How does light travel? Which objects create the most interesting designs? LET'S REFLECT We'll share our favourite discoveries and take home a kaleidoscope that's completely unique.
